Big Win For Farmington Hockey

1/25/10-Cromwell--The Farmington Indians hockey team moves into first place in their division with a big win over East Catholic Monday afternoon, 3-1.

East Catholic got on the board first in the second period.  Senior captain D.J. Willson went coast to coast down the far side, split two Farmington defenders and beat Kyle Chemente top-shelf glove side to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

In the third Farmington applied some early pressure when Nick Palen skated around East Catholic's Nick Artikes and put a quality shot on net.  During the scrum for the rebound, East Catholic's Tim Bishop was called for cross-checking to give Farmington a power-play.

During the ensuing face-off the Eagles' Nick Tallo found him self one-on-one with Jack Noble.  Tallo made a nifty move putting the puck through the skates of Noble but shot the puck over the net missing a key short-handed scoring opportunity.  For most of the season the Indians haven't had much luck with the man advantage, but this power play they created four good scoring chances making the Eagles work in their end.

East Catholic applied pressure of their own moments after killing off their third power play of the afternoon.  Farmington's Anthony Georger was beat and forced to trip Willson who got the shot off with Chemente making a shoulder save to keep it a one-goal game.  With 39 seconds remaining on Georger's tripping minor, East Catholic won a face-off in their offensive zone but misplayed the puck.  Eric Meier hustled and poked the puck to Nick Palen who didn't break stride and turned on the jets, skating past Jared Nelson and beat East Catholic's Will Husic low glove side for the short-handed goal and tie the game just 3:36 into the third.

With just over a minute remaining in regulation, East Catholic's Caleb Nelson delivered a perfect centering pass to Willson right in front of Chemente, but Willson was unable to get his stick on the puck.  The puck ended up in the corner and was gathered by Farmington's Andrew Lindquist who moved it ahead to Brian Cohan.  Cohan carried the puck into the offensive zone until he was checked off the puck by a hustling Willson.  Lindquist trailing Cohan took the puck and flipped it over the left shoulder of Husic and found the last knot of twine under the crossbar for the game winner.

East Catholic pulled Husic to give the Eagles the man advantage.  Farmington's Palen won a battle for the puck in the neutral zone and pushed it toward the vacant net.  Meier outhustled East Catholic's Tallo and dove to poke the puck into the net for the insurance tally.

The win improves Farmington's record to 5-5-1 and travels to Bolton Thursday to take on Rockville-Manchester at 4pm.
East Catholic falls to 8-2 and travels to Trinity College Wednesday to take on Glastonbury at 7:15.
