Farmington Falls to Watertown-Pomparaug, 6-3

2/20/10-Simsbury--Watertown-Pomperaug scored four unanswered goals to defeat Farmington 6-3.

Watertown-Pomperaug got the scoring started in the first when Brian Benson beat Farmington's Janusz Podlasek glove side throught traffic with Matt McCormack getting the assist.  With three minutes remaining in the first Connor Burns was called for boarding and 7 seconds after the call, Watertown-Pomperaug's Mitch Valente scooped up a rebound and found the back of the net to give the visiting Indians a two-goal lead.  Less than a minute later Watertown-Pomperaug found themselves a man down and C.J. Spellman made them pay with a power-play goal with 1:43 remaining in the period.  Farmington looked to gain some much needed momentum going into the second period.

Early in the second Farmington's Anthony Georger was called for slashing.  But senior captain Nick Palen wasn't going to let the call change the team's momentum.  Palen took a pass from Brian Cohan and tallied a shorthanded goal to even the game at two goals apiece.  Forty-five seconds later Connor Burns scored to give Farmington a 3-2 lead.  Cohan and Andrew Lindquist got the assists.

With time running out in the second, Watertown-Pomperaug's Ryan Bersari took a pass from Jack Murphy and scored with 58 seconds remaining to tie the game at 3-3.  Penalties on both teams opened up the ice with six seconds to play and a face-off in Farmington's end.  Watertown-Pomperaug's Jack Murphy won the face-off back to Brian Fay who snapped off a wrist shot that rung off the post and found twine to give Watertown-Pomperaug the 4-3 lead and the game-winner with 3-seconds left on the clock.

Watertown-Pomperaug's John Dwyer and Murphy scored in the third to extend the lead to 6-3.

Farmington's Podlasek made 17 saves.  Watertown-Pomperaug's Bryan Sched stopped 24 shots to earn the win.

Farmington falls to 8-8-2 and hosts Newington-Berlin Wednesday at 7:35pm.  Watertown-Pomperaug improves to 11-6 and hosts New Fairfield-Immaculate Saturday at 7:30.
