Chemente Keeps it Close, Indians Lose to Glastonbury

1/9/10-Hartford--Two second period goals help Glastonbury beat Farmington 2-1 Saturday night at Trinity College.

The Farmington Ice Hockey squad got another chance to see how they staked up against a Division 1 team. Glastonbury who played in the State Championship game last year returned many of the players from a season ago minus All-State goalie Mike Ford. Farmington was dominated early in the first period as Glastonbury got off 10 quick quality shots, all turned away by Farmington goalie Kyle Chemente.  About midway through the period Farmington's offense started to put together some scoring chances of their own. Sophomore Dom Bazzano had a couple of great moves to create scoring opportunities but didn't get the bounce needed to beat Glastonbury's goalie Chris Hamhauser. However Senior center Connor Burns didn't need a fortuitous bounce as he once again locked and loaded his rifle shot from beyond the face-off circle to beat Hamhauser and give Farmington a 1-0 lead against the 9th ranked team in the state.  Glastonbury had a good opportunity on the power play at the end of the first period, but Chemente was solid between the pipes.

With the lead going into the second period, Farmington had it's eyes on knocking off the Division 1 powerhouse, Glastonbury wasn't going to let that happen.  Farmington committed numerous penalties giving Glastonbury the momentum they needed.  The Tomahawks tied the game up 3:35 into the second period with good puck control on the power play.  Senior captain Alex Zlatkus skated behind the net, his centering pass went off a defenders skate, right on the tape of Tom Kinney who beat Farmington's Kyle Chemente glove side.  Glastonbury controlled the second period outshooting Farmington 13-5.  With 1:21 left in the period and the teams skating 4-on-4, Zlatkus once again was behind the net when he found Ethan Holdaway in front for the game-winning goal.  Solid play from Chemente and defensemen CJ Spellman, Matt Cowles and Luke Thompson helped keep the game close but the Indians couldn't muster up any late chances to find the equalizer.

Farmington's Kyle Chemente stopped 31 shots.  Glastonbury's Chris Hamhauser turned away 21 shots to earn the win.

Farmington falls to 3-4-1 and hosts division opponent Wethersfield Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 at ISCC in Simsbury.  Glastonbury improves to 4-1-1 and host Trinity Catholic Monday at 4pm.
